Cost of Living Index™
Compare price levels and purchasing power across 200 countries, with two modes and component scores.
Score snapshot: 2026-08-28 · 200 countries
Scores run from 0 to 100; higher is better within each mode. These are not rents, monthly USD budgets or personal income estimates. The snapshot date is not the observation year of every indicator.
Real purchasing power combines PPP income relative to price levels with price stability. This is a composite model, not an official World Bank purchasing-power indicator.

Methodology and limitations
Min-max normalisation after 2.5–97.5% winsorisation. Affordability = low prices 70% + price stability 30%; real purchasing power = PPP income / price level 80% + price stability 20%. When stability data is unavailable, the remaining pillar receives all weight. Stability uses the mean of up to five latest available annual observations; each indicator uses its latest available observation, so years can differ across countries. Ranks are sequential in the dataset, including when rounded scores tie.
