The Global Citizenship Score: how we rank where it is worth belonging
The Global Citizenship Score answers a difficult question: if you had to choose one citizenship to hold, which would be the most balanced choice? Rather than looking at the passport alone, we combine eight indices normalised to a 0–100 scale, each with its own weight:
- Passport strength — 18%
- Quality of life — 16%
- Global safety — 14%
- Healthcare — 12%
- Real purchasing power — 12%
- Education — 10%
- Wealth protection — 10%
- Tax freedom — 8%
The passport carries the highest weight because it is the most direct expression of “global citizenship”, but a country with a strong passport and weak safety or healthcare will not rise to the top of the table.
Transparency principles
- Every component index publishes its method and sources.
- A country needs data covering at least 60% of the total weight; weights are redistributed proportionally across the available pillars.
- Changing the weights means changing the ranking philosophy; we keep the weights stable and document every change.
See the full ranking in the Global Citizenship Score, or explore each pillar in depth: passport, quality of life, safe, healthcare. The overall method is set out on the Methodology page.
